Prescottt And Nevada To Clash Next MondayPublished Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott basketball teams will host the Nevada teams next Monday in a clash of super powers, which is expected to fill the local gymnasium. The Wolverettes are expected to win the 7AAA Conference championship again this year and many are expecting them to win the state title. They have only played one game, but soundly defeated arch rival Gurdon. At the other end of the county the Lady Blue Jays are expected to win the 7AA Central Conference. They are off to a good start. Having defeated Blevins twice and Stephens once, the Lady Jays are now 3-0 in the conference race. In fact the only loss they have was handed to them last Friday night by the Bradley Lady Bears in a non-conference game. The Lady Jays are 7-1 overall. Coach Matt McClure is not sure what his players can do yet since the Wolves have yet to play a game. McClure had to wait until football season ended before he could finish choosing his squad. The Prescott Curley Wolves will not be easily put down, though, in any game. Next Monday's game will give fans an indication of what to expect from the Wolves in round ball action. The Nevada Blue Jays, while Prescott was still playing football, was already winning games. They are now 2-1 in conference play, having put away Blevins twice but defeated by Stephens, which is expected to win the boys' division of the 7AA Central Conference. The Jays are 4-4 overall after being defeated Friday night by Bradley in a non-conference game. As usual a sell-out crowd is expected at the Prescott gym Monday. A junior game, featuring the girls, will start things at 5:30. Better be there early. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
