QC Examines BudgetPublished Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneBY AUTUMN LEAMONS The Nevada County Quorum Court has begun looking over budgets for the coming year. A committee was to have met at on Wednesday of last week to further discuss the budget for 1999. This is to help determine which department is spending too much money or who is not. Walt Denton from the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, addressed the court about a town meeting that was held the previous Thursday about the rural water system. Questions were answered for anyone who showed interest in the water system. He also informed the council that he had not heard of any new developments for the At Risk program that is planning to take over the old Nevada County Hospital building. The Love's Truck Stop that is to be built at exit 46 is almost ready to break ground. Denton said that the site was almost cleared and that they were planning on breaking ground in December. Denton also told the court that the Rip Griffin's Truck and Travel Center that is to be built at exit 44 at Interstate 30 will start major progress within, or quicker than, five to eight months. The Quorum Court members were given the audit report which was small compared to the ones in the past. The report fit on two pages and had no defaults found by the court. In new business this month the court discussed the county's millage ordinance. This is something that has not changed in past years, but is required to be passed each year by ordinance. The only tax change this coming year will be the Prescott School District millage, which has risen three-fourths of a mill to stay in compliance with state law. The court approved the ordinance and shortly after adjourned from the meeting. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
