Christmas In Old WashingtonPublished Wednesday, November 25, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneOld Washington will be celebrating a nineteenth century Christmas Saturday, December 5, with 'Christmas and Candlelight.' Christmas and Candlelight is one of the most anticipated events at Old Washington Historic State Park. Sponsored by Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (S.A.R.A.), the City of Washington, Pioneer Washington Restoration Foundation and Old Washington Historic State Park, this is the major fund-raising event for S.A.R.A. Saturday, December 5, promises to be an enchanted evening at the park. The twelfth annual Christmas and Candlelight will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon and continue until 8:00 p.m. Over 3,000 luminaries will light the way for visitors strolling the historic streets while visiting the many houses and museums which have been lovingly restored and are decorated in the natural holiday decorations that were prevalent during the period. The churches will be open with on-going programs, strolling minstrels will entertain and visitors will have an opportunity to see every facet of this historic village as many of the buildings that are not normally on tour will be open for your pleasure. Advance tickets can be purchased at a discount by contacting Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives. Prices are $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-12. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at the visitor center at Old Washington Historic State Park for $10 for adults and $5 for children.
