YOUTHFUL OFFENDERPublished Wednesday, November 25, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneA 16-year-old Prescott youth will be charged as an adult with several felony offenses. According to Kisselburg, the youth was originally wanted for criminal mischief. The first incident involved throwing rocks through windows of a moving vehicle. Kisselburg said the youth was attempting to stop the vehicle in question, but the driver wouldn't. So, the youth, also in a car at the time, passed the other car, pulled off the road and began throwing rocks through the windows. However, when officers went to pick him up, he began fighting with the deputies, injuring both of them. Once subdued, he was taken to jail, where he set fire to his cell. The youth followed his arson attempt by vandalizing the cell. When a jailer went to check on the youth, the boy spat on him, adding yet another charge to his growing list of offenses. Kisselburg said the youth has been charged with two counts of second degree battery, arson, criminal mischief and aggravated assault on an employee of a correctional facility. All of these offenses are class D felonies. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
