Nevada Students Rescue WomanBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 25, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Heros come in all shapes and sizes. In fact, anyone can be a hero. Take, for example, two 15-year-old boys from the Rosston area. These two teens pulled a woman from a submerged vehicle and saved her from drowning. The incident occurred Saturday, Nov. 7, on Highway 67 about three miles south of Hope. According to reports from the Arkansas State Police, Bobadilla Brewer, of Hope, was driving her 1988 Cadillac south on Hwy. 67 during a rainstorm when the vehicle hydroplaned. She lost control of the car, which left the road on right side and went into a creek. A passerby, Thomas Hays Junior, saw a big splash and flagged an oncoming vehicle down. Hays explained what he had seen, and Harlon Carlton Jr., Alex Gibson and Chris Poindexter, dove in the frigid water, swam to the vehicle and forced the door open. Once they opened the door, they were able to pull Brewer out to safety. Other than being wet and cold, Brewer was not injured in the mishap. The accident, however, was attributed to weather conditions. Gibson and Poindexter are students at Nevada High School in Rosston. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
