Parker To Take Over Water ProjectBY REBECCA COOPERPublished Wednesday, September 29, 1999 in the Gurdon Times The Greenville Water Project has been paused by tragedy. Charles McClendon, Jr., contractor and owner of McClendon Constructions Co., suffered severe injuries and the loss of immediate family members in a recent auto accident. McClendon Construction Co.'s bid was approved for the Greenville project by the Gurdon City Council. Charles Summerford, of Summerford Engineering, Inc. in Arkadelphia, commented that the contract would be fulfilled by either Kenny Parker of Parker Construction Co., or James Roberts of J and R Construction Co., both of Palestine. The project will continue on schedule as soon as possible with little delay. The commission discussed the need to fill the fifth seat on the commission. The spot has been empty for some time. There was some thought given to persons in the newly annexed area having representation. But there are no area requirements attached to the commission seat. August 25, the personal committee recommended Shirley Williams for the office manager position. The commission hired Williams, who decided against taken the position permanently after one week. Current office manager, Rhonda Spruill will remain in the office training her replacement until October 1. Harold Hurst, water department manager, hired Debra Shaver as a temporary employee to fill the position until the personal committee meets again. Hurst conveyed slight frustration with the continuing computer problems. "Their still not networking," stated Hurst. Charles Fallia, the high school computer teacher, will be assisting the water department to correct the problems. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
