Community NewsJerine HatleyPublished Wednesday, December 2, 1998 in the Gurdon Times Saturday, December 5, there will be a fellowship dinner at the old middle school cafeteria in Gurdon, starting at 11:00 a.m. and going throughout the day. There will be no charge to anyone who would like to come by to eat. December 5 at 5:00 p.m. the Beard Family gospel singers from Pine Bluff will be at Bethel Independent Church in Gurdon. This will conclude the fellowship dinner. Everyone is invited to attend. There will be a gospel musical program Saturday, December 5, at Muldrew Chapel C.M.E. Church beginning at 6:00 p.m. Everyone and all churches are invited to attend. Ronald Scott, pastor. Sunday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m. the first Sunday night fellowship program will convene at Eastern Star Baptist Church in Smithton. Everyone and all churches are invited. Rev. Ronald Scott and the Muldrew Chapel C.M.E. Church are in charge of the program. Rev. Marshall Allen is the pastor. Saturday, December 12, at 6:00 p.m. deacon Joe Keith Crow will preach his first message at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Everyone and all churches are welcome. The officers and members of Ronoake Baptist Church of the Greenville community will celebrate their pastor and his wife, Rev. and Sis. Troy Hearn's third appreciation services Sunday, December 6, at 2:30 p.m. Special guests will be St. Ruth Baptist Church of Gum Springs. Rev. Charlie Thomas, speaker. Rev. Troy Hearn, pastor. Mrs. Ellen M. Wiley of Dallas has returned home after visiting her sisters, Mrs. Monteen Davis of Gurdon, Mrs. Veodis Cook of Malvern and Ola Mae Bailey of Okolona and other relatives and friends of the surrounding area. Sunday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. evangelist Mildred Jones will be in service at the old senior citizen building in Gurdon. Everyone is invited to this special anointed services. Rev. Freddie Young, pastor, in charge. BoBo Gatlin of Los Angeles visited his uncle, Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Gatlin and family, Jerine Hatley, Billy E. Lidge, Joe Welch, Ned Welch, Gilbert and Monteen Davis, Frank Berry, Fred Hatley, Floyd and Margee Gatlin of Gurdon and Erma Buford, Pauline Buford, Ola M. Bailey, Sam Gatlin, Laura Grigby of Burtsell, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bell of Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Tate of Gum Springs and other relatives and friends. She also visited Johnny and Bessie Lacy of Burtsell over the holiday. Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey and grandson and Helen Wiley of Los Angeles, Calif., visited their mother, Mrs. Ola M. Bailey, of the Burtsell community, their aunts, Monteen and Gilbert Davis, Veodis Cook and Ellen Wiley of Gurdon and Malvern. Topeese Wiley and Floyd Wiley of Chicago, Ill., visited their sisters, Monteen and Gilbert Davis, Neodis Cook of Malvern and Ellen M. Wiley of Dallas. They also visited other relatives and friends, Ned Welch and Joe Welch of Gurdon. Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Stafford and son of Barlett, Tenn., Debra Stafford of Hot Springs and Lori Ann Stafford of Arkadelphia visited their parents, Mr. And Mrs. James A Stafford, of the Greenville community Thanksgiving day. Lonnie Quarles of Plano, Texas, visited his Mother, Mrs. Birdie Quarles of Gurdon, his sister, Bonnie Ruth Ross and family, Mildred Anderson and family, his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Quarles and family, and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Helen Burton of Chicago has returned home after visiting her son, Winfred and Margret Burton, and daughter, Jerine Hatley, brothers, Ned Welch and Joe and Hazel Welch, niece Laura Grigsby, other grand children and great great grand children over the holiday. Rev. and Mrs. Rufus Hatley hosted the Thanksgiving dinner. Sunday, December 6, at 2:30 p.m. Ronoake Baptist church will be observing its third appreciation of their pastor, Rev. Troy Hearns. Collins visited Helen Burton in the home of Jerine Hatley Saturday, Also Erma Buford, Jennie V. Cummings and Demetric Allen. Mrs. Cloeia Lee and 13 members of her family of Portland, Ore., visited her mother, Mrs. Erma Buford, Clara Fort, Christine Beard and other relatives and friends in Burtsell. She also visited her daughter, Karen and Kenneth Harper, and sons of Gurdon and other relatives and friends of the area. She also attended the fifth Sunday singing in Gurdon and she and her mother, visited Rev. and Mrs. Donald Crosby Sunday morning and worshiped with them.
