Breadbasket To Take Applications For Food Baskets Next WeekPublished Wednesday, December 2, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneApplications to receive Christmas food baskets will be taken on Monday and Tuesday, December 7 and 8 at Operation Breadbasket - Homeless Center at 200 W. First Street. Applicants for the elderly (over 60 years old) will be taken from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, December 7. Applications for all others will be accepted from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Breadbasket is a volunteer effort, funded by donations that feeds upward to 400 needy households during the holiday season, and throughout the years. It is in its 16th year of service to Prescott and Nevada County, giving food, clothing and shelters to the needy and homeless. Breadbasket will distribute food baskets on December 21 and December 22. The food basket usually include about $25 of groceries, including a ham or baking hen. Those who are homebound can have someone else sign up for them if that person brings identification and proof of need from the individual he or she is standing in for. No multiple requests will be taken. The Breadbasket's food pantry is a joint effort of several businesses, churches, civic clubs, and community volunteers. Fund-raising efforts will officially begin this weekend. The organization is in need of canned food, sheets and towels. For more information call 887-2762.
