SAU Sets Four Theater PerformancesPublished Wednesday, September 29, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Theatre Department of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia has scheduled four performances for the 1999-2000 academic year. The calendar includes three comedies and one drama, which should provide entertainment for theatre fans of all ages. How I Learned to Drive is the first play of the year and will be performed October 5-7 at SAU. The play is a drama and centers on a young girl and the lessons she learns about life at an early age. How I Learned to Drive is SAU's entry in the American College Theatre Festival. Daddy's Dyin' - Who's Got the Will? may sound familiar to audiences, because of its release at the movies in recent years. The play focuses on the reunion of a family gathered to await the imminent death of their patriarch, who has recently suffered a physically, as well as mentally, disabling stroke. However, the play soon turns away from the will to the rebirth of the spirit of the family unit. Performances dates are Dec. 7-9. The third play of the year will be performed February 29 - March 2. The Apple Tree is a combination of three one-act musicals about men, women and temptation. The stories are The Diary of Adam and Eve adapted from a Mark Twain story; the second, The Lady or the Tiger?, explores the fickleness of love in a rock and roll fable; and Passionella is based on an offbeat Cinderella story. The SAU Theatre Department will close the year with a play written by comedian Steve Martin entitled Picasso at the Lapin Agile. This absurd, funny play involves Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in 1904 Paris. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Harton Theater on the SAU campus. Ticket prices are $1 for students and SAU faculty and staff. Genera admission tickets are $3.
