Wolverettes Open Conference With Big WinBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 9, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott Coach Bill Cossey celebrated his 450th win Friday, as the Wolverettes hammered Bismarck 80-50. The victory also spoiled Bismarck's homecoming celebration. A bomb threat was made during football season, resulting in the homecoming game being moved and played out of town. This meant the homecoming festivities were to be held during basketball season. Bismarck probably should have picked an opponent they had a better chance of beating than Prescott. The Wolverettes ,jumped all over the Lady Lions in the opening eight minutes, taking a 20-6 lead. Bismarck was able to cut into the lead a little in the second period, but still trailed by 18 at the intermission buzzer with the score 38-20. The Wolverettes were off and running for the remainder of the game once the second half got underway. They posted a 59-38 margin at the end of three and outscored the Lady Lions 21- 12 in the final stanza. Prescott was led by Stacy Stockton's 31 point performance, while Traci Graham played string music to the tune of 19 points. Andrea Cossey helped her dad reach the 450 win milestone with 15 points. Amanda Doss led Bismarck with 17. Prescott did well at the line, connecting on 10 of 17, while the Lady Lions were nine of 19 from the charity stripe.
