Published Wednesday, December 9, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Henderson State University will hold commencement exercises for the winter semester December 18.

Several of the graduates are from Gurdon.

Graduating from Gurdon with a bachelor of arts in mass media is Adrian L. Henry; with a bachelor of science in education are Stephanie Lynn Cagle, elementary education, and Benjamin J. White, physical education; with a master of science in community counseling is Valerie Rochelle Crow; and with a master of science in education are Nelda Conway, elementary education- reading; and Eva Darlene Wood, special education.

Levin D. Pollins of Okolona will graduate with a bachelor of arts degree in mass media.

Undergraduates from the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences and graduate students receiving a master of liberal arts will be attending the 6:00 p.m. ceremony. Undergraduates from the Schools of Business and Education and graduate students receiving a master of business administration, a master of science and a master of science in education will be attending the 8:00 p.m. ceremony.

Over 200 undergraduates and approximately 60 graduate students will be marching in the ceremony.

David Gardner, associate professor of mathematics and computer science and Dr. Carl Stark, professor of business, will provide the faculty charges.

Commencement will be held in Wells HPER Center Gymnasium.

Summer Yvette Futrell will provide the student response for the 6:00 p.m. ceremony and Elena Kiryanova will provide the student response for the 8:00 p.m. ceremony.

"There will be no rehearsal for the winter ceremonies," C.B. Watterson, convocations committee chairperson, said. "We are asking graduates to arrive a minimum of 45 minutes early. Deans will be on hand to line up the graduates in the rear hallway of the Wells HPER Building."

There should be no overflow of crowd, according to Watterson, and no restriction placed on seating because the divided ceremonies should provide plenty of room.
