Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, December 9, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesBeing out of class for Thanksgiving break spoiled us, as we really found Monday morning a very difficult time to get back on task. Before long we will be taking our Christmas break and there is no way of knowing how spoiled we will be by that time. Just keep being concerned for us. Our sympathy is extended to Lula Mae Cathey in the loss of her mother. Just remember you are in our thoughts. In case you are not aware, please take notice the Junior High girls basketball team is 7-0 and will be playing in the finals at the Blevins tournament. (I must tell you that is being written before the game, so that facts given were those at that time.) We are proud of you, girls, and of course, Coach Hatley! Mrs. Clingan was presented a check for $325 from the CONE Foundation. This grant is to begin the process of providing benches and picnic tables for the campus. The students need places to be able to sit down and enjoy the free time of fellowship before school and after lunch. If you are interested in helping with this, please call Mrs. Clingan, as it will be greatly appreciated. Mud! Mud! We have plenty and would like to get rid of it. The construction of the new building and the football field is coming along, even with the muddy situation. As difficult as it is to believe, the students seem to find mud to track inside the building. Several students have to enter the classrooms with sock feet until they can get their shoes clean. Just making them feel right at home. We do have students who clean their feet before entering the building and we really do appreciate them. The Beta Club is providing a Christmas tree for the front entrance of our school. Students are asked to bring an ornament to decorate the tree. The CMS Student Council collected non-perishable food to help make the Christmas season a happier one for several families. More will be given on this next week. It is so rewarding to see our students with the desire to help someone else, not knowing if this is a family of our building or one of the other schools, but just knowing they are sharing the Christmas spirit. Mrs. Green gave an update on her daughter's condition and it is great! The doctor is pleased with the healing process and all is looking good. Christmas lists have changed several times for many of the students. Others have already found the 'hidden loot' and are so proud of themselves! Just thought you parents might like to know. That's just part of Christmas I guess. After all didn't we all do that at one time or another? The eighth graders took the Explorer's test Wednesday and found that it wasn't as bad as they had thought it would be. Hope you, our faithful readers, are well and ready for the holidays. Remember we consider you a very important part of school time and would appreciate hearing from you. Until next time, we will be busy making those Classy Moments at CMS.
