The club voted to decorate a table in the harvest theme for the Art League's event coming up October 16. The president announced the Southwest District meeting will be held in Texarkana on October 21 at St. James Episcopal Church. Betty also stated that Rose Garden Club is invited to the Governor's mansion for brunch-lunch October 8 and 9. Mary White of Camden, master gardener and a member of the state Fire Ant Board, was the speaker for the afternoon. Her talk was on controlling pests, emphasizing control of fire ants. She gave the names of several products to help control them, stating that each neighbor needs to be involved in order to eradicate them. Her program was most informative. Mary invited the group to attend the Camden Flower Show on October 9 from 2 to 4 in her home. Octavia Taylor, president of the Camden Garden Club was also a guest of the club. Evelyn Wilson is a new member of Rose Garden Club. The officers were installed with the following changes: first vice president is Pauline Hays and the second vice president is Barbara Stewart. All other offices remain the same. The October meeting will be a nature study at DeGray Lake. There will be a program on Eagles. Tri-Service ClubTwenty-two members of Tri-Service Club enjoyed a luncheon in the home of Ann Pounds on Friday, September 24. Co-hostesses were Kathy Cox, Pat Grimes, Mary Orren, Vickie Reeves and Anice Ward. Ree Reynolds conducted an impressive invitation ceremony for three new members, Judy Duke, Pauline Hays and Holly Ross. Debra Culpepper reported on the sale of Sally Foster items. The generous response from the community in supporting this money making project is greatly appreciated by the club. The members voted to save un-wanted clothing and other items from around the house and sell it to ARC. Last year citizens of Prescott were very cooperative in sharing their junk' with the club. The club asks for your help again this year. More information on this project will come at a later date. All the proceeds from every money making project go back into the community. One of the primary reasons for the existence of Tri-Service Club is to make a difference in our town by extending a helping hand to those who need assistance. The next meeting will be in October. At that time members will be bringing canned goods and staples to distribute to needy families. In November there will be a drive to collect coats, which will then be given to those who need a winter wrap. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
