Red Springs EHC

Published Tuesday, December 15, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

The beautiful decorated home of Joyce Rutherford was the setting for the Red Springs Extension Homemaker's Christmas party December 10.

Twenty-two members answered roll call by naming their favorite Christmas goodie. Many different foods were named, including this reporter naming her favorite, the peanut butter cake, which her minister father, Turner S. Brown, always baked, and which now she bakes for her children, grand and great grandchildren to enjoy.

The program included the devotional by hostess Joyce Rutherford, inspirational reading, Christmas carols and an exchange of gifts.

In reports, a note of appreciation was read from the family receiving the Thanksgiving basket. The holiday tour of homes was successful with Jean Toland, Kathryn Burchfield, Helen Toland, Denice Ezell and Tootsie Dempsey serving as hostesses at Manchester United Methodist Church.

Tootsie Dempsey read a note of appreciation from Cheryl Riggs of the Cancer Research Center of Little Rock for the cancer turban donations.

Sharon Hank won the door prize and gave the blessing of the food.

The January 14 meeting will be at the Gurdon Municipal Building, hosted by Kathryn Burchfield and Denice Ezell.

Something for all Christmas shoppers to ponder:

The best of all gifts was not

Festooned with bells and bows;

The best gift the world has ever seen

Was wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Have a peaceful and joyful Christmas.
