Classy Moments

Published Tuesday, December 15, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

We experienced the first real cold weather and found that we really did not care for it! Of course we had rain with the cold and that made things a little 'soggy and damp, as well as brrr' all at one time. You could probably say we are hard to please and that would most likely be correct, but we are loveable.

Our sympathy is extended to Mrs. Clark during a very difficult time. Her grandfather passed away. We are glad you are back, Mrs. Clark, as you were greatly missed.

The band Christmas concert was a big success. Thanks to Mr. Wimberly and Mr. Burnson for a job well done. Of course, the students had a lot to do with it also. Great performance!

Recently Daybreak, the early program on Channel 7, took the viewers to a home to see how it was decorated with Coca-Cola items and it was really something to see, but 'they haven't seen nothing yet' until they see Mrs. McBride's computer lab. Now, it is very easy to describe, as it is a different version of 'Old McDonald's Farm' as it is Coca-Cola here, Coca-Cola there, here a Coke, there a Coke, everywhere a Coca-Cola! She seems to find something new each week that adds to the decor. Seeing is believing. Just ask the students about the Coke room.

Beta Club initiation has been taking place. Thursday the new members wore pajamas, slippers and robes to school. Friday they had the egg that requires a certain number of teacher signatures, and their hair was in rollers or ribbons. Each day was a fun day for the present members, as they could ask new members to sing the Beta song and carry their books to their classrooms. Induction ceremonies were to be held in the cafeteria Tuesday, December 15.

Mrs. Clingan is still on cloud nine, as she attended her baby's wedding. This baby, David, is considered to be an adult, but will always be her baby. (Mothers, you can understand that.) Mrs. David Clingan was a beautiful bride as she walked down the aisle to the handsome groom who waited for her arrival. Jessica and David appreciated Sharon Gattis and Virginia Brandon making the trip to Conway in the rain to attend the wedding more than they can ever know. The happy newlyweds are honeymooning in Colorado. David is assistant manager at Wal-Mart Super Center and Jessica is a student at UCA.

Secret Santas are being enjoyed by the teachers and staff. Each day is a little gift and the main gift will be exchanged Thursday at the Cabe Middle School Christmas dinner. This will be a very special time to have together and to reveal the secret Santa's name.

Excitement is definitely in the air around CMS, as we are ready for the 'Night Before Christmas' and especially Christmas Day. Of course we will miss being in class (now you do believe that), but we do make sacrifices and this is just one of many!

Classes will dismiss Friday, December 18, at 2:00 p.m for the holidays, but we are still making those Classy Moments at CMS.
