Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Tuesday, December 22, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. Mom's In Touch prayer group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Shorter Chapel A.M.E. Church of Blevins will have its Christmas musical program Sunday, December 20, at 2:30 p.m. to benefit Sis. Sellastine Phillips, whose house burned down. It will be held in the Blevins Elementary School gym. Donations may also be sent to Shorter Chapel A.M.E. Church, c/o James McGill, P.O. Box 15, Blevins, AR 71825. Some of the choirs to participate will be Shorter Chapel Choir, Goff Chapel Choir, St. John Four, Mary and the Summerville Singers, the Antoine Community Choir and New Beginnings Choir. A retirement reception will be held Friday, December 18, at 10:00 a.m. for Barbara Butler, tax assessor, and Sydney DuCharme, treasurer, at the courthouse. The public is invited to this occasion, honoring them for their dedicated work over the past several years. The Prescott School board will have its regular monthly school board meeting Thursday, December 17, at 6 p.m. in the high school media center. On the agenda will be the superintendent's report; Scotty Caroon about Excel lighting; basketball practices and tournament; Arkansas Public Employees Retireme4nt resolution; Joyce Gibson about Prescott District Education Association; textbook adoption; Technology Connectivity Grant; update on LMC automation; Arkansas Public Employees Retirement Claim; and personnel matters. Corby Ryan Davis has arrived. He arrived on December 7, 1998, weighing in at 7 pounds. He was 20 inches long. Corby's proud parents are Sherri Smith and Boyd Davis of Prescott. Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Judith Smith of Prescott. Paternal grandparents are Billy and Sandra Davis of Prescott. Great grandparents are Jim and Vi Smith of Prescott and Norman and Janet Hook of Payson, Ariz. Corby has one great great grandmother, June Heckman, of Payson, Ariz. The Nevada County trash pickup next week will be altered due to the Christmas holiday. The county courthouse will be closed Thursday and Friday, therefore Thursday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday. There will not be a pick-up on Friday. Trash in the city will be picked up in regular zones at regular times on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but nothing will be picked up on Thursday and Friday. The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is conducting the Master Gardener training program every Wednesday between January 27 and February 24 at Clark County Fairgrounds in Arkadelphia. New trainees, following receipt of their Master Gardner certification, will be asked to donate a minimum of 40 hours to help Nevada County Extension agents train others. Training begins on January 27 with instruction on basic botany, principles of horticulture, soils and fertilizer, irrigation, pest control and pesticide use. Other training sessions include vegetable production, home fruit production, landscaping and lawns. All training will be conducted by University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service professionals. A fee of $60 covers books and other materials. Deadline for applying is January 6.
