Trailblazers Travel To Grand Ole Opry ChristmasPublished Tuesday, December 15, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott Trailblazers recently visited Nashville, Tenn., for the Christmas holidays. Forty-two left Prescott December 5 for the two-day trip. Saturday night the group went to the Grand Ole Opry Christmas show to see 25 stars perform. Through the years, the Grand Ole Opry has set the stage for country's top performers. Take country music's greatest legends, mix in today's biggest superstars, add the hottest new voices on the charts and you have the world famous Grand Ole Opry. Sunday morning the Trailblazers toured the Opryland Hotel for an experience they'll never forget. They enjoyed Opryland's spectacular Christmas holiday light display and decorations and enjoyed the Delta, the hotel's breathtaking new expansion, housed under a magnificent glass- domed ceiling featuring, a spectacular 4.5-acre garden, plus a beautiful waterfall which flows into the river. At noon the Trailblazers had reservations for Christmas Sunday brunch at the hotel. At 2 p.m. the group was met by a tour guide at the hotel for a three-hour tour, which included the vibrant downtown area and learned about the colorful history of Nashville. They visited the Wildhorse Saloon, saw historic sites, Ryman Auditorium, site of the new NFL stadium for the Tennessee Oilers, home of six stars and the Governor's mansion. On Sunday night the group stepped aboard the General Jackson on the Cumberland River, the largest showboat in the world, for a dinner evening cruise and a beautiful Christmas show. A devotional was given on the bus by Ann Oliver. Those making the trip from Prescott were Sybil Sherman, Bobbie Gautsche, David Glass, Bud Vandiver, Jodie Smith, Mary Loe, Georgia White, Mariam Purtle, Lois McAnally, Nina Price, Frances Bryson, Maxine Freeman, Von Gordon, Joyce Tyree, Julie Stockton, Elizabeth Sisk, Bobbie Jones, Jim and Pat Severns, Curtis and Mary Johnson, George Darrell and Vickie Glass, James and Ann Oliver, Walter and Frances Harris and John L. and Lenora McWilliams. Going frrom Hope were Dale Howell, Odell Collier and Grady and Canelia Hasley; from Sutton: Irma Sue Purtle, Juanita Murch and Bennie Purtle; from Bodcaw: Mary Adams; from Gurdon: Jean Barton; from Hot Springs: Margie Compton; from Delight: Betty Bowdle; from Texarkana, Mary Joe Arnold and Virginia Fisher; and from Shreveport, La., David Richardson.
