WHAT'S FOR DINNER?

Often, dinnertime is the only respite in a hectic holiday schedule. Sharing this time with friends and family can bring a much-needed pause from the pressures of the day. Yet putting together a meal that is quick, delicious and family-friendly can be a challenge.

Start out ahead of the game with a pantry of prepared and quick-to-fix staple items. Staples should include fresh foods that are used often and/or easy to prepare. With little fuss, a great meal is just waiting to happen.

Keep these items on hand and you'll always be ready for dinner during this hectic season.

Salads

  • package fresh greens;
  • shredded cheeses;
Fruits;
  • canned garbanzo, pinto or black beans;
  • canned julienne beets;
  • marinated mushroom or artichoke hearts;
  • bagged fresh herbs;
  • bottled salad dressings; and
  • croutons.
Entrees
  • boneless poultry breasts;
  • seasoned breadcrumbs or stuffing mix;
  • dry pasta;
  • creamy mustard-blend mayonnaise;
  • prepared spaghetti sauce;
  • pizza crust or bread shell;
  • chopped nuts;
  • olive oil;
  • balsamic or rice wine vinegar;
  • bottled minced garlic;
  • chicken or vegetable broth; and
  • quick rice.
With these pantry supplies you should be able to create a variety of menu ideas that your family and friends will enjoy without a lot of fuss. Bon Appetite!
