Oak GroveLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, December 30, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Viola Blakely's funeral was held Saturday, December 26, at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Waterloo. Viola Blakely's grandson, Rev. Royal Broddix, officiated the funeral. Rev. Bobby Box is the pastor. She really was put away nice. She had nieces and nephews from all around. Our cousin and his wife from California, Larry and Sonny Bazzelle, and her mother, Mary I. Brooks, from Camden stopped by to see George and me Sunday afternoon. Our nieces, Bobby and Merlyn and Bonnie Dixon also came. Merlyn lives in Oakland, Calif., Bobby and Bonnie are from Chicago, Ill. They really did Santa Claus George and me good. They are really good to us. Mrs. Johnnie Marsh came home for Christmas. We miss her very much. There will be a two-night meeting at Bethel A.M.E. Church December 31 and January 1 at 6:00 nightly. Missionary V. Raspberry from Pine Bluff will be the speaker for the two nights. Our budget rally will be the fourth Sunday in January. All members are asked to pay $50. Our first quarterly conference will be the first Sunday in February at New Salem A.M.E. Church. Rev. Lessly Banks is the pastor. Mrs. Vera Purifoy went to Dallas, Texas, for Christmas to visit her sister, Velma, and her husband. Rev. Lupo Bethel A.M.E. Church in Rosston will go to Beverly Health and Rehab Saturday to render a program. Pastor L. Banks and the choir and members of the church will be there. We have been looking forward to doing this for some time. The first Sunday in January New Salem is sponsoring a musical program. They are asking choirs from churches to come and help them out. They only have four members over there. They need our support. A correction from last week: Benora Box is the W. M. Matron in Chapel 359.
