Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, January 6, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesSince we have been out of school for the holidays, it seems as though there isn't too much to write about. It must be said, however, it seems as though time has flown by! After seeing several teachers and students during the holiday break, it was agreed that we need another week out of school. The visits with some parents had different opinions for some reason or another. (Just can't imagine why.) We were so saddened to hear of the accident involving three former students, of which two, Darinda Ray and Adam King, were killed. The third one, Joe Fallin, is still in the hospital. Prayers are certainly with those families. One of our eighth grade students, Uthel Gatlin, had a shotgun explode, seriously injuring his left hand. He was in Children's Hospital in Little Rock, but I understand that he was to be dismissed Monday. Hoping all goes well with Uthel. (He is so fortunate, as his right hand is his writing hand,' so he can keep up with school work. Thought that might make you feel better, Uthel!) Timing seemed to be in our favor, as we were out of school when the ice arrived in the county and most of the state. We hope each of our readers were able to handle the cold weather without serious problems. "Is this the end of the cold, ice and snow for the winter?" is the question now. One thing for sure in regard to the cold weather, our new building is so much warmer than either of the other two buildings we had. Again, we are so grateful for Cabe Middle School. We are now in the second semester of this school year. If the second goes by as fast as the first one, we will be out in just a short time for the summer. Mrs. Clingan's seventh graders turned in their Arkansas history textbooks and were issued the textbook of World Geography. They will be going' places this semester! Wish each of you could have seen the excitement in their faces when asked to turn in the one text, but how quickly that look changed when they realized they were receiving another book! Maybe they thought they were through for the year. Thank you for being such faithful readers and I ask that you do me a big favor. Call the Gurdon Times and tell them you do enjoy the article and would like to have it continued and I thank you in advance for doing that for me. We will be busy this semester, but never too busy to show off' our facility or to brag about it. We simply enjoy making those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School.
