Ruptured Line Poses No ThreatBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, January 6, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune A ruptured gas line proved to be no more than an inconvenience Wednesday, Dec. 29. According to spokesmen for Arkla Gas Co., the public was not in danger at any time after the break in the line occurred. Margaret Preston said 25 homes were left without service for almost 24 hours, but being without gas was the only problem suffered by nearby residents. She said a weld broke, leading to the problem and the line had to be welded back together. To do this, though, gas had to first be turned off in the region affected. To help the residents stay warm, Arkla provided electric space heaters. Once the repairs were made, Preston said, Arkla crews went to each house to inspect for possible leaks and turn on any pilot lights. Jacky Bradshaw, who works with Noram, the company controlling the pipeline portion of the business, said these things happen, but there was no danger of an explosion at it was. The rupture was called in about 9:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, with crews arriving around 1 a.m. Tuesday. They worked to correct the situation until around 7 o'clock Tuesday evening. The break in the line occurred near Kizer Field on Highway 24. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
