Emmet Schools have had a busy weekend with basketball. Saturday, January 9, the junior girls played Emerson with Emerson winning 26-14. The Emmet junior boys took a 38-29 loss against Emerson.

Peewee basketball opened its season as well by playing Delight at the Ross Gymnasium. The scores were: third and fourth girls Eagles 7, Delight 3; third and fourth grade boys Eagles 3, Delight 32; fifth grade girls Eagles 5, Delight 12; fifth grade boys Eagles 0, Delight 34; sixth grade girls Eagles 17, Delight 12; and sixth grade boys Eagles 17, Delight 22. A big thanks to the peewee workers. Coaches are Kelvin McClellan, Delois Muldrew, Mike Otwell, Connie Beard and Randy Reed. Referees were Gary Gatlin and Vernon Block. Clock and scoring were Pam Elliot and Vickie Dearinger. Cheerleader squad members are Jennifer Simmons, Jessica Allen, Mary Ann Clayborn, Alyssa Hickey, Hannah Cleveland, Christina Parmer and Ashley Parmer.

Friday, January 15, is Emmet's homecoming game. The Eagles will be playing Bright Star at 5:30. Peewee games will be played Saturday, January 16, here against Saratoga beginning at 5:30. Tuesday, January 19, the Eagles will travel to Blevins to play. The senior boys and girls and the junior girls will be playing.

The city of Emmet will hold its monthly financial meeting Saturday, January 16, at 1 p.m. at City Hall.

Birthday wishes are for the 11th through the 17th include Chandra Banks, Jane Hinley, Chris Adamson, Anita Allen, Kesha McClellan, Diane Davis, Carol Stacy and Marie Adamson and many more.

The Emmet PTA held its monthly meeting Thursday, January 7. President Karen Guierrez stated the PTA had purchased a ball rack for the gym, lockers for the seventh grade and gave a pizza party for rewarding the reading students in recognition of achievement. The annual pancake breakfast will be scheduled in February. Please watch for this upcoming date. Proceeds will go toward purchases, such as these listed and many more.
