I just opened my mailbox and found the annual tax booklet from the IRS. That always cheers me up right after Christmas. The seed catalogs should start arriving soon.

News around here is scarce as hen's teeth this week.

I am already hearing some reports of colds and sore throats. The cold and damp weather we've been having doesn't help.

I received word that my niece, Ashley McKelvy, has arrived safely at home from her trip to Ireland. She was glad to be home and reported having a great time. She was not too impressed with the food in Ireland and was glad to get some good old American junk food.

Our sympathy is extended to Missy Beaver. Her grandmother, Mrs. Alta McKay, of Locust Bayou passed away. The funeral was January 7 in Locust Bayou. Missy also lost her mother a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to Bill and Linda Carman for winning the award for the best lighted Christmas display (outside Prescott) Just think what Linda could do if she got acquainted with Jennings Osborne.

If you see Lisa Carman around town the next day or two, wish her a happy birthday.

Here's a message to the deer of our area: I think it's safe to come out now.

Jeanie and I traveled to Texarkana last Saturday to do some shopping. We always try to get a meal at Bryce's Cafeteria when we get over that way.

Our thought this week is from Elen Glasgow: "The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions."
