Sonic's Manager Wins TripPublished Wednesday, January 13, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe Gurdon Sonic Drive-In was recognized for winning the 1998 Tropical Adventure Manager's Incentive Promotion sponsored by Coca-Cola and Sonic. Mary Smith and other winning Sonic Drive-In managers will cruise the Caribbean from January 10 to January 14 for a victory vacation. This trip includes a luxurious five-day, four-night Carnival Cruise for two to the islands in the Bahamas, with stops in Freeport and Nassau. The Gurdon Sonic was one of 90 drive-ins with the largest percent increase in fountain drink sales volume during the period from June 15 through August 31, versus the same time in 1997. Ten other cruise winners were awarded trips based on a contest recognizing outstanding displays or events that best depicted the spirit of Sonic's summer of 1998 tropical theme. As a result, all 100 winners will be sailing away on a Caribbean cruise. Sonic is known for its made-to-order food served by carhops who deliver food directly to customers' cars. Sonic has 1,900 drive-ins in 27 states. It is the nation's largest chain of drive-in restaurants and America's fifth largest hamburger chain.
