A 15-year-old Cabe Middle School student was arrested Thursday, Jan. 14, for having a weapon on campus.

According to Clark County Sheriff Troy Tucker, the arrest was made around 12:15 p.m.

Another student, he said, told CMS Principal Jeff Alexander about another student showing a handgun to friends. Alexander called the Gurdon Police Department and CCSO.

When officers from the GPD and CCSO arrived, Tucker said, Alexander called the student in question from class and the weapon, a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun, was taken from the student.

The student and weapon were turned over to CCSO deputies. The student was then taken to a juvenile lockup in Glenwood, Tucker said.

Charges will be filed against the student for having a firearm on campus. This is a felony offense.

However, Tucker said, there was no report of violence from CMS, nor was there any threat of violence because of the weapon.
