Lady Jays Need OT; Jays Fall to RoadrunnersPublished Wednesday, January 20, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneIt was nip and tuck, but the Nevada senior girls eventually defeated the Stephens Lady Roadrunners Friday night, 51-49, in overtime to stay atop of the 7AA Central District. And, in the final game of the night, the Blue Jays put a big scare on the Stephens senior boys, who are ranked number 1 in the state in Class AA with a clean 24-0 record. Nevada pumped in eight 3-pointers in the last half only to lose 74-64 against last year's state champions. In the first game of the night the Nevada junior girls came out ahead, 38-16, after getting off to a slow start in the conference game. Jenny Harding and Stephanie Williams led the junior Lady Jays with 16 and 15 points respectively in the win. The junior girls didn't come alive until the second period, then it was their game all the way. Others scoring for Nevada were Tyrunza Heard with 5 points, Cristi Lambert with 3 and Jenny Lewis and LaToya Pearson with 2 each. Scoring the bulk of the points for Stephens was A.
