Elloene McBride received word that her sister-in-law, Hannie Dell Moore, had fallen on the ice in Oklahoma several days ago. She broke some bones and had to have surgery January 12 and will also have to have some therapy. She is married to Dr. Herbert Moore.

We are sorry to report the death of Retha McKelvy of Haworth, Oklahoma. She was the wife of Glenn McKelvy, who has several relatives in this area. Funeral services were held January 15 and burial was at Redland, Okla. Millard and Elloene McBride made the trip to Haworth for the funeral.

Members and guests of the Church of Christ enjoyed a potluck luncheon after services on January 17. There was plenty of food and some to spare. We have some excellent cooks in our community. David Nicholas is the minister at the Church of Christ and is doing a fine job.

Alpha Hunter, the assistant postmistress at Bluff City, is home in Chidester and improving after suffering a stroke several weeks ago.

Britt and Kelly Carman from Camden were spotted in Bluff City on Sunday.

A birthday party was given for Lisa Carman last week. Several friends and relatives were present, including Rex and Sandra Hildebrand from Terrapin Neck.

Happy birthday wishes also go to Lauren Nelson, granddaughter of James and Kay Nelson. Her parents are Andy and Dr. Elizabeth Nelson of Ft. Smith.

I recently came across the following ten rules of life attributed to Thomas Jefferson. Sounds like pretty good advice to me.

  1. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
  2. Never trouble another for what you can do for yourself.
  3. Never spend your money before you have it.
  4. Never buy what you do not want just because it's cheap.
  5. Pride costs more than hunger, thirst or cold.
  6. We seldom repent of having eaten too little.
  7. Nothing is troublesome that we can do willingly.
  8. How much pain the evils have cost us that have never happened.
  9. Take things always by the smooth handle.
  10. When angry count to 10; if very angry, count to 100.
