Quorun CourtPublished Wednesday, January 20, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneBY AUTUMN LEAMONS The Nevada County Quorum Court held a special committee meeting Wednesday, January 13. The committee met to discuss the certification of officers at the sheriff's office and the large amount of comp time that some of the officers have obtained. The committee members consisted of John Henderson, Curtis Lee Johnson and Judge James Roy Brown. Representing the sheriff's office was Judy Ferguson. Johnson was not able to attend the meeting, therefore it was decided to meet again before February 1. On the subject of officer certification, some of the officers at the sheriff's office are certified and some are not, although both groups are being paid the same amount of money. It is the thought by some members of the quorum court that this is not fair to the ones who have attended school and are certified. Solutions to the matter will be discussed in the next committee meeting and then brought before the regular meeting of the quorum court next month. The Nevada County Sheriff's office has a problem with too much comp time, as well, some of the members think. Comp time is when someone who fills in for someone, but then has no one to fill in for that person, thus creating overtime in a pay period. The only solution that has been suggested is to hire a roving officer to cover for anyone sick or on vacation. This person would have to be fully trained as a jailor, a deputy, and a dispatcher in other words someone who would wear several hats. Both subjects will be discussed with all committee members at the next special meeting and then presented to the court. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
