In December, 104 students at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia completed course requirements to receive their degrees in May. Of those graduates, 19 graduated with honors.

Graduating in May from Prescott will be Deanna G. Ellis, with a B.A. in English; Jarod D. Hendry, with a B.B.A. in business administration-finance; Stacy L. Milam, cum laude with a B.S.E. in health, kinesiology, and recreation; and Tonda Pennington with a B.S.E. in elementary education.

Graduating from Waldo will be Brandy L. Hines, cum laude with a B.S in sociology (social work specialization); Earsaline Witcher, with a B.S.E. in elementary education; and Elisha O. Wright, with a B.B.A in business administration-marketing.

Students attaining a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.74 will graduate cum laude, students who earn a GPA of 3.75 to 3.89, will graduate magna cum laude, and students who earn a GPA of 3.9 to 4.0 will graduate summa cum laude, the highest honor given.

The University of Central Arkansas has named 628 students presidential scholars and another 1,085 students to the dean's list for the fall 1998 semester, according to John Mosbo, the provost.

The presidential scholars from Prescott are Cary J. Cossey, a senior majoring in kinesiology/physical education, and Kelly M. Whitmarsh, a senior majoring in physical therapy.

Making the dean's list from Prescott is Brian P. Cossey, a junior majoring in kinesiology/physical education, and Ashley C. DeWoody, a senior majoring in occupational therapy.

A presidential scholar is UCA's designation for students who make a perfect 4.00 grade point average on at least 12 credit hours. Dean's list students are those whose grade point average is at least 3.5 on a minimum of 12 credit hours.
