Torrance Walker of Pine Bluff, Jim Ed Brewer of McCaskill and William McDonnell of Hot Springs, medical students at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine, have been selected by their peers to receive the prestigious Buchanan Key for 1998-99.

The Buchanan Keys were established in 1939 by the late Dr. A.S. Buchanan, class of 1905.

One recipient is selected annually from each class, based on scholastic achievement and the vote of his or her classmates.

After Dr. Buchanan's death in 1953, the award was continued by his daughters, Mrs. Carl Dalrymple and Miss Katherine Buchanan of Prescott, in honor of their father who practiced nearly 50 years in Prescott.

The Buchanan Key recipients were announced at the annual College of Medicine Scholarship banquet on the UAMS campus.
