PRESCOTT 61

Published Wednesday, January 27, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

FOUKE 26 Fouke's Lady Panthers were Prescott's second victims of the week, as they fell 61-26 in the game played Tuesday, Jan. 19.

It was also a game which saw the Wolverette bench get plenty of work as the route was on early.

Prescott Coach Bill Cossey doesn't intentionally run up the score on other teams, but there are times when it can't be helped. This was one of those times.

The Wolverettes began feasting on Panther meat in the opening eight minutes by posting a 17-4 lead at the end of one.

There was a time in the quarter when questions arose as to whether Fouke would score or not before the buzzer sounded.

Period two was much the same as Prescott did what Prescott wanted to do for the most part. However, the Lady Panthers were able to score more points, as they put nine onto their tally to make it 32-13 at halftime.

The Wolverettes seem to like playing in the third quarter. They came out fired up against Fouke and put up 28 points, while giving up but four.

The Lady Panthers never knew what hit them as Prescott literally scored at will in the quarter, which ended at 60-17.

It was bench time for the Wolverettes in the fourth quarter as Cossey cleared the bench. Scoring pretty much ended for Prescott, while Fouke was only able to score nine.

Prescott was seven of 13 in free throw attempts, while Fouke hit two of four.

Graham again led the way in scoring with 22. Stockton contributed string music to the tune of 15, while Cossey stroked the nylons for 14.

Courtney Puckett scored 13 for Fouke.

Friday night, the Wolverettes will be at home and have the chance to take a measure of revenge against the only team in the 7AAA to blemish their record.

Fountain Lake's Lady Cobras beat the Wolverettes 58-51 on Dec. 15. The rematch is one the Prescott crew has been waiting for since then.

Fans should come out early, as the Wolverettes will be looking to administer the knockout punch in the opening round.

Because of the earlier loss Prescott is only tied with Mena for the league lead, both with 8- 1 records. Otherwise, the win against the Lady 'Cats would have given the Wolverettes sole possession of first place.

After the Fountain Lake game, Prescott will have four games remaining, three on the road. Their lone home game will be against Nashville.

The road trips include visits to Fouke, De Queen and Mena, with De Queen and Mena being the last two games of the season.
