Assertiveness Training, given by Tootsie Dempsey, was the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club program January 14 at the Gurdon Municipal Building.

The ten Bill of Assertive Rights were given. You have the right to:

  1. Judge your own behavior, thoughts and emotions.
  2. Offer no reasons or excuses for justifying your behavior.
  3. Judge if you are responsible for finding solutions to other people's problems.
  4. To change your mind.
  5. Make mistakes and be responsible for them.
  6. Say, "I don't know."
  7. Be independent of the goodwill of others before coping with them.
  8. To be illogical in making decisions.
  9. Say, "I don't understand."
  10. Say, "I don't care."
The objectives of this program were that each member should be able to know how to stand up for their rights and describe positive ways to handle certain problem situations.

Twenty members and four visitors answered roll call by stating how they say 'no' and mean it.

In the business session, Bibles will be bought and given to the Courage House.

An appreciation note was read from the family receiving the Christmas basket.

Jean Toland reminded everyone to review activities in the January newsletter.

A basket workshop, to be taught by Betty Cook, will be February 17 at the Gurdon Municipal Building from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Maggie Sue Currey won the door prize. Kathryn Burchfield and Denice Ezell hosted the meeting. The meeting adjourned with Dianna Bloomfield reading the E.H.C. Creed and blessing of the food.

The February 11 meeting will be at the Municipal Building, hosted by Tootsie Dempsey and Maggie Sue Currey.

A workshop on constructing mastectomy patient pillows was held January 20 in the home of Elizabeth Wilson. Twenty-four pillows were sewn and stuffed with attractive pillow cases.

Attending the workshop were Mary McBride, Joyce Rutherford, Mattie Tally, Jean Toland and Elizabeth Wilson.
