College NewsPublished Wednesday, January 27, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesIn December, 104 students at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, completed course requirements to receive their degrees in May. Lanny K. Allen of Gurdon will graduate with a B.S.E. in health, kinesiology and recreation. Of the 104 graduates, 19 will graduate with honors. Students attaining a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 to 3.74 will graduate cum laude, students who earn a GPA of 3.75 to 3.89, will graduate magna cum laude, and students who earn a GPA of 3.90 to 4.00 will graduate summa cum laude, the highest honor given. The University of Central Arkansas has named 628 students presidential scholars and another 1,085 students to the dean's list for the fall 1998 semester, according to John Mosbo, the provost. From Gurdon, Donald G. Benson has been named a presidential scholar. Benson is senior majoring in physics.
