Emmet School District Holds Public Meeting

The Emmet School District held its public meeting September 13 in the school cafetorium to inform patrons of the school's goals, policies, programs and improvements.

Emmet School goals for the 1999-2000 school year are as follows:

  • improve the average reading score on the SAT-9 for students in grades K-8 to 50%;
  • improve the number and quality of the buildings in the school district;
  • improve student's ACT scores;
  • increase the effective use of technology;
  • implement a vocational home economics program; and
  • to insure that all students are on grade level in reading and math by the 4th grade.
The district hasimplemented the following programs to meet those goals:
  1. reading recovery program;
  2. ABC pre-kindergarten program;
  3. K-4 summer program;
  4. SHOTS  a summer enrichment program for K-6;
  5. electronic bookshelf in both schools;
  6. student academic incentive program;
  7. Eye Catcher program in the elementary school;
  8. incentive program for students scoring above the 50% on SAT-9;
  9. a greater variety of extracurricular activities;
  10. after-school tutoring program;
  11. career awareness day;
  12. teacher in-service in technology;
  13. CCCnet Computer program for students in K-8;
  14. all classrooms are now accessible to the Internet;
  15. ACT summer program; and
  16. Smart Start program.School improvements include installation of covered walkways and concrete walks between most buildings on campus; a security system for all high school classrooms; Distance Learning program with the Arkansas School of Math and Science; a technology challenge grant award of $56,000 to purchase two computers, and one printer for all elementary classrooms, which will provide a multi-purpose computer network to all classrooms in grades K-6, and the grant provided for teacher in-service and software; replaced all old Arkla air conditions in the main building; summer ACT school for high school juniors and seniors; and completed a new elementary building annex.

    Emmet School continues to provide an after school day care program for benefit of working parents. The day care program stays open until 6 p.m. for a nominal fee.

    Enrollment at Emmet has increased 49% since 1990.

    The school is in compliance with all state standards.
