April Cancer Campaign Month

The Nevada County Unit of the American Cancer Society would like to remind area residents that April is the month of the annual door to door campaign.

Look-a-like cancer organizations usually mail out notices in February and March, asking people to mail them money or go door to door and collect money.

Before you give to any charity, you need to know where your money is going, according to American Cancer Society.

Ask yourself these questions: Does the organization have a local board of volunteers? Does the organization offer help in the community and state? Is there an Arkansas address that you can check on the organization? The American Cancer Society can answer yes to all these questions.

The American Cancer Society meets the standards imposed by the top two charity-rating agencies the National Charities Information Bureau and the Better Business Bureau. Look-a likes do not.
