We go from wind and tornadoes one week to heavy rains the next. Flooding is one natural disaster that this community doesn't have to worry about as long as we don't have to cross a creek.

Several people here reported to be sick with what our ancestors called the 'grippe.' We should be thankful for the medicines we have now even though they are expensive.

Some residents spent some time in the hospitals last week. Bill Carman visited the hospital in Arkadelphia one day last week, suffering from a kidney stone. He says one of those in a lifetime is plenty. Olen Loe is reported to be in the hospital in Hope for some tests. Obie Odell, a former resident of this area, is in the hospital at Texarkana for tests. Maybe everyone will soon be feeling better.

Congratulations to Mrs. Doris Hildebrand. She had her ??th birthday January 30. I'm not sure she wanted her age published, but she is one of the oldest residents of this community. I remember seeing a wall plaque in the home of Elmer and Goldie Meador that said something like 'You should never be ashamed of old age. It is a privilege denied to many.'

I hear that Rex and Sandra Hildebrand made a trip to Branson last week. Their son, Stacy, and his wife, Jennifer, were performing in a music contest there. I don't have all the details, but I know that Stacy and Jennifer do a good job whenever they sing.

Here's something else to jog your memory. Do you remember what TV shows were popular 20 years ago? A few of them were Happy Days, Three's Company, Family, Soap, Charlie's Angels, Starsky and Hutch, the Waltons, Hawaii Five O, Barnaby Jones, Fantasy Island, Hee Haw, Adam 12, Laverne and Shirley and The Love Boat.

Since the weather has been in the news the last week or two, this week's thought is from Kin Hubbard, "Don't knock the weather; nine tenths of the people couldn't start a conservation if it didn't change once in while."
