There's a new police chief in town.

Sam Reeder was hired for the job by the Prescott City Council. He replaces retired Chief Willie Latin, who was honored for his 27 years of service with a party at the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Office Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Reeder has been a police officer for about 12 years. He began his career with the Nashville Police Department and also worked with the Howard County Sheriff's Office before moving to Nevada County.

Upon arrival in Prescott, the Reeder family, Sam and his wife, Angie, ran the Prescott Hardware Store, which has recently been turned into an antique shop.

Sam and Angie have four children, Megan, 14, Jade, 12, Seth, 10 and Skyelar, 8.

Reeder said he wants to make the Prescott Police Department more visible in the community, but hasn't had a chance to figure out how to do this, as he's only been on the job a week now.

"I was surprised when I learned I got the job," he said. A total of five applications were submitted for the position.

In his spare time, Reeder enjoys fishing. He takes his two boys fishing every chance he gets. He also likes spending time with his family as time allows.

The PPD, he said, will get more involved in the community, but no major changes have been planned at this time.

He said his wife was excited to learn he got the job and is very supportive of him.
