Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991. Mom's In Touch prayer group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, February 25, and Thursday, March 25. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind checks. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. Do you want to know more about Fire Ants? On Thursday, February 11, at 6:00 p.m. there will be an open forum meeting to discuss the red imported fire ant. Donna Shanklin, fire ant specialist with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, will be the guest speaker. At this meeting the public will be brought up to date on information concerning the dreaded ant and methods of control will be discussed. A question and answer session will follow Shanklin's presentation. The meeting will be held at the Nevada County Extension office at 532 West First South, next door to Dollar General. The Emmet PTA will not meet this month, because of the basketball games. The next meeting will be the first Thursday in March. The Prescott gifted and talented program is now taking nominations for placement. Students need to be in the grades two through 11 and in the top percentile on their standardized test scores taken in the fall of 1998. Nomination forms are available by contacting either Sheila Jennings at Prescott Elementary School or Philip Holthoff at Prescott Middle School. A Chamber of Commerce coffee will be sponsored by the Bank of Prescott on February 24 from 9:30 to 11:00 in the Bank of Prescott employee lounge. Everyone is invited to attend. SWADC has announced English as a second language tutoring is now available. Learning to read and write better in English is a skill that challenges many adults in the nation and in this area. Literacy also includes problem-solving and higher level reasoning skills. It is estimated that 29% of the adults in Nevada County and 30% of the adults in Hempstead County do not have the necessary skills to get and keep a living wage job. Revival services will begin at the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church Monday, February 15, and go through Friday, February 19. Conducting the services will be Reginald E.
