BISMARCK 51
Published Wednesday, February 10, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayunePRESCOTT 11 Little can be said about the junior girls game as the Lady Lions from Bismarck simply whipped the Cubettes 51-11. No matter what the Prescott five did, Bismarck countered effectively. The Lady Lions had a size and speed advantage over Prescott's girls and used them accordingly. Bismarck took the opening tip and scored, while Prescott turned the ball over on its first two possessions. Bismarck's press affected the Cubettes adversely, forcing turnovers and mistakes as the Lady Lions roared to a 26-0 first quarter score. The majority of the first period was played in Bismarck's half of the court as Prescott had problems getting the ball across the time line. The Cubettes, when they did make it to their forecourt, went 0-6 from the field as Bismarck players had hands in their faces. Bismarck picked up where they left off in the second quarter, scoring at will and harassing Prescott players. Pressure by the Lady Lions resulted in turnovers by Prescott and points for Bismarck. At the 4:58 mark, the Lady Lions led 31-0 and were subbing entire sets of five players at a time. The Cubettes got on the board at the 3:30 point with a basket. Halftime arrived with the score 33-4. Period three saw much the same results as the first two. The Cubettes telegraphed their intentions, with the Lady Lions putting more points on the board. Prescott's girls did their best. They played hard and tried, but it was not to be on this afternoon. The quarter ended with the score 46-6. Both benches were cleared in the final six minutes, as the coaches got everyone into the game. The two teams scored five points each to make the final score.
