Quorum Court Pays Off DAREPublished Wednesday, February 10, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneREBECCA S. COOPER During the Nevada County Quorum Court's meeting decisions on county finances were quickly dealt with. The county is picking up the tab for the last two months of the DARE program. The grant that was to pay for the program fell through. Under the program 1,047 students will be the first in the county to graduate the program. Harrell Pruitt was offered and accepted the position of head jailer. Sheriff Steve Otwell went over the needs of the officers to be able to buy gasoline at stations other than the one in Prescott that serves them now. The court at first wanted to have bids submitted, then decided to leave it to the discretion of Otwell as long as the stations met the price offered by their current server. Judge Duncan Culpepper has had his job title adjusted to include Juvenile Intake Officer. Now the county will be reimbursed half his salary. Kathy Lee of Southwest Arkansas Development, and the Mayor of Bodcaw attended to discuss the finances for that city's water project. The loan monies will go through the city, but the grant monies will go through the county, because it started the project. The quorum court members discussed problems with the At Risk Foundation, which is the current lease holders of the old Nevada County Hospital. The foundation was a no show for a meeting on Friday, January 29. The county has had no response in dealing with the repair needs of the old hospital or the county's repair bills for broken pipes over the winter. They decided to draft a letter inviting them to come before the justices with their financial statements. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
