Bears Heading To Philippines: Will Be Doing Missionary WorkPublished Wednesday, February 10, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesBobby Bear and his wife, Judy, formerly of Gurdon, left for the Phillippines January 21. Bear graduated from Gurdon High School. He is the son of Estelle Bear and the late Dempsey Bear. Judy Bear graduated from Okolona High School. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Little. Bear has pastored in Arkansas, North Carolina and Georgia. He served 13+ years as Interstate Missionary and has organized two churches. Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church and pastor J.C. Patterson of Star City is the sponsoring church. Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Auburn, Ga., is co-sponsor. Bro. Bear will be working on the Island of Lyon. He and his wife will live at Bulacan, 30 minutes north of Manilla. Lyon is the largest island with population 40,000,000. Grace church sponsors the Lyon Missionary Baptist Institute and seminary on Lyon. That seminary has 40 students enrolled this year. Grace Baptist Church of Auburn, Ga., has purchased property in Bulacan to build the seminary facility at the cost of $68,000. Bro. Bear will be teaching in the seminary and lead in the construction of the facility. A church building will be a part of this complex. A mission is meeting in Bulacan, which will use the facility. Bear will also assist in the construction of mission building and work with the Phillippines to help them have self-supporting churches. An English speaking service in Bulacan is also a possibility. The Bears have four children and four grandchildren, James and Tina Bear and children Matthew and Jenni; Jack and Barbara Bear and children, Courtney and Patrick; John and Missy Bear; and Dana and Robbie Ballard.
