Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.


Mom's in Touch weekly prayer group, praying for local schools and children, meet Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for more information.


A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, September 23.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213.


The Prescott Middle School PTP is selling Prescott Curley Cubs and Prescott Curley Wolves t-shirts and sweatshirts as a fund-raiser. The t-shirts are $10 and the sweatshirts are $15.

The Prescott Elementary School Parents and Teachers as Partners (PTP) is selling the 1999-2000 t-shirt and sweatshirt Together We Stand Hand In Hand.'

The sweatshirt is $15 and the short-sleeved t-shirt is $10. Both of these shirts are available in youth and adult sizes.

New this year is a long-sleeved t-shirt, which is priced at $15 and is available in adult sizes only.

All proceeds from this sale fund and support Prescott Elementary School and its students through the PTP organization.


The McNeely family reunion will be the October 10 in the community center at Hope's Fair Park.

Everyone is welcome. Potluck is at 1 p.m.


The Nevada County Conservation District has one no-till drill for rent. You can reserve the drill now by calling 887-3210 or go by the office at 403 E. 2nd Street. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Wednesday. There are also some bluebird boxes available from the conservation district.


The Rhodes family reunion will be held Saturday, September 25, at the Cale Community Center. Potluck will be served at 12 noon. All family members and friends are invited to attend.

Immediately following lunch a meeting of the Friendship Cemetery will be held at 1 p.m. Anyone with family members or friends buried there are encouraged to attend.


The Butler, Bennett and Fore reunion will be held Saturday, September 25, in the Union Baptist Church fellowship hall on Highway 53 near Bodcaw, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

There will be a potluck lunch. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Denis Walker and Courtney Bryant are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, LoCora KeShawn, born Tuesday, September 14, 1999.

She weighed six pounds and was 11 inches in length.

Grandparents are Annette Marlow and Willie Bryant.


A crafters fair will be held Saturday, November 13 inside the large ballroom of the Elks Lodge at 4701 Garland, Ave. in Texarkana, Ark. from 9 a.m. till 8 p.m.

Booths are 8x8 for $35 and 5x6 for $20. There will be no food booths.

Usher day at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Willisville was Sunday, September 19. Rev. Richard Dixon was guest minister. The Voices of Praise from Okolona sang.

Pleasant Grove has a new pastor. He is Rev. J.C. Owens of Bearden. His subject Sunday morning was Getting Off the Side line.'


There will be a singing at Morris Baptist Church Thursday, September 23, at 7 p.m. The public is invited.


The Emmet Vision Association is sponsoring Pumpkin Fest Saturday, October 2, from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. at the Emmet Chuck Wagon and old bowling alley

There will be a snack bar, including pumpkin treats and booths of tools, antiques, pumpkin costumes, arts and crafts, Beanie Babies, miscellaneous items and bake sale.

Proceeds help fund Christmas decorations and other special needs of Emmet.

Munns Chapel Baptist Church will have its annual choir day Sunday, September 26, at 3 p.m. Special guest will be the Rising Star Baptist Church of Hope. Speaker will be Rev. Jesse L. Radford Jr.

Other guests include Faith Temple Church of God in Christ and Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Prescott and Mt. Canaan Baptist Church of Gurdon.
