Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, February 17, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe day of royalty has arrived at Cabe Middle School. The assembly conducted on February 11 was the setting for the crowning of the king and queen for Cabe Middle School for the school year 1999-2000. The candidates were fifth graders Callie King and Aaron May; sixth graders Taylor Pace and Jammel Lacey; seventh graders Lindette Kadiri and David Garland; and eighth graders Tracy Coplen and Matt May. A penny a vote was cast by the student body. All of the candidates were winners, as they were selected by their classmates to represent their grades. The new royal couple are Callie King and Aaron May. They were crowned by the fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Butler, Mrs. Davies and Mrs. Green. Their first official royal duty was drawing the name of the winner for the $50 to the student who sold a certain amount of jewelry. The winner of the $50 was Jaquay Dixon. The CMS Pep Steppers raised money also. The winners of their fun-raiser were Misty Phoenix, Robert Plyler, Jocyln Brown and Freddie Thompson. The citizen students for the month of February are fifth grader Josh Burnley, sixth grader Amy Stiffler, seventh grader Matt McElhannon and eighth grader Justin McCarter. These students are selected by the teachers. The selections are not based on any one area, but attitude and behavior are greatly involved. Mrs. Clark, seventh and eighth grade English teacher, has an intern student teacher, Debbie McMillan. We welcome her to our school and hope that she will enjoy her days with us. The GMS Beta Club and Student Council were really busy recently, as they were selling a variety of Valentine items to be delivered before school was dismissed February 11. It was such a nice thing for students to send Valentine greetings to friends. The heavy rain didn't damper their spirits at all! The talent that Cabe Middle School has is astonishing. During the assembly Jenise Jackson and Christian Daniels entertained the audience with their singing. They both received a standing ovation. Great job, girls! We appreciate your support and encouragement as we continue to make those classy moments at CMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
