PRESCOTT 64

MENA 52

Revenge was on Prescott's mind in their second game, occurring in the semi-finals, as they whipped the Bearcats 64-52.

In the final regular season game Mena had posted a rather one-sided win at home.

The 'Cats won the first 16 minutes, leading 14-6 after one and going to the lockers leading 27-22 at the half.

However, Prescott returned the favor in the third and fourth quarters by taking complete control of the game. Period three ended with the Wolves up 40-31.

The Wolves were 17 of 28 from the line, while Mena was a perfect nine of nine.

Wilson led Prescott with 23, while Brian Woodley contributed 17.

Perez and W. Roberts led Mena with 12 each.

The tourney opened with De Queen beating Bismarck and Fouke whipping Fountain Lake.

Round two saw the Leopards edge Nashville and the Wolves dump Fouke.

Semifinal action had the 'Bugs downing the Leopards and the Wolves ripping the 'Cats.

The 'Cats, though, managed to edge De Queen out for the number three seed in the regional tournament this week.

"We've got to win tonight," Matt McClure, Prescott coach, said. "If we do we'll be in the state tournament."

Because of fewer class AAA teams in the state the top four finishers in the regional tourney are given berths in the state tilt. In all other divisions only the top two teams go to state.

The Wolves will open play today (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. against the Dermott Rams.

McClure said the Rams typically play a 1-3-1 zone defense, are athletic and jump well. They are also a fast team.

However, McClure said the Wolves are capable of beating any team in the tourney and going to state. "We have the ability and potential to win it all," he added.

"All their hard work has paid off. They've been working for this since last March. I'm proud of them."

The Wolves beat every team in the division twice this season, with the exception of Mena. The 'Cats took two of the three meetings, with Prescott winning in the district tourney when it mattered most.

Prescott will only be losing two seniors from this crew, with a good crop coming up from junior high for next season.

But, this group isn't worried about next year, McClure said. They're still working on winning it all this season.
