It's a busy time for the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce.

Along with getting everything ready for the annual Chamber banquet, scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, Chamber Director Mary Godwin is finalizing plans for a seminar on managing financial stress Thursday, Feb. 25.

This seminar will be held at 7 p.m. in the community room of the St. Michael's Health Center.

It is free to the public, though it is geared primarily toward business and industry. Candace Carriere', with the Nevada County Extension Office, will be the featured speaker.

At 6 p.m. Monday, March 1, a meeting will be held at the Extension Office for those area farmers who are interested in participating in a farmer's market this year.

Godwin and Rex Dollar will host the information gathering meeting. Those who want to be involved in the farmer's market should show up.

Last year's market was a success as farmers brought their extra produce to the Prescott City Park and sold wares from their vehicles. The market was open from 7 a.m. until the produce had been sold out.

For more information or to get questions answered call Godwin at the Chamber at 887-2101, or Dollar at the Extension Office at 887-2818.

Anyone planning to enter a T-shirt design in the Second Annual Chicken and Egg Festival T-Shirt Contest needs to get to work. The deadline for this event is March 5.

Entries for the T-shirt contest must include the following on the design: 12th Annual Chicken and Egg Festival; Prescott, AR and the current year (1999).

The designs are limited to three colors and should be submitted to the Chamber on formats no smaller than 8x10.

A selection committee will determine the winner, who will receive a cash prize of $50.

This brings the Chamber events up to the April 6, banquet. Again, it will be held at the Prescott Middle School cafetorium and will spotlight the Teacher's of the Year, Citizen of the Year and the Treasure of Gold Award.

Matt Mosler, with KATV Channel 7's Daybreak program, will be the featured speaker. Along with talking to those present about his duties on the program, Mosler is scheduled to sing.

Godwin, though, said people need to get their nominations in. Deadline for making a nomination is Thursday, March 11.

Any Nevada County resident can be nominated for Citizen of the Year, and any resident can make a nomination.

The selection committee will judge the entries on the following criteria: outstanding service to family, city, county, state, national affairs, church activities, fraternal organizations, recreation and industrial and education oriented services.

The panel will make its decision based on the quality of the content of the letters and not the number of letters submitted.

Nominations should be mailed to: Citizen of the Year c/o Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 307 - 116 East Second, Prescott, AR 71857-0307.

The theme for this year's banquet will be tropical in nature: "Aloha - Our Paradise Island."

Godwin said those attending will be greeted by servers wearing grass skirts and given Hawaiian leis.

And, for the third year, an auction will be held at the banquet to raise money for future Chamber events. One of the featured items to be sold is a football autographed by the 1998 Arkansas Razorback team.
