Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, February 24, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesCan we be spoiled? Yes, we can!! We observed two weeks of only four days of school and found that we liked it. Probably because of the weather being so cold and rainy made it easier for us to stay at home. (The weather gets blamed for a lot of things.) We are very pleased to hear of the honor bestowed upon Mrs. Bullard, 7th and 8th grade math teacher. The Oklahoma-Arkansas Section of the Mathematical Association of America recognizes teachers from each state for their contribution to the teaching of mathematics. Mrs. Bullard has been selected as the outstanding 5-8 grades teacher in Arkansas for this year. Congratulations, Mrs. Bullard. The students took home forms for parents to fill out with names and addresses of nine adults and have these forms returned to the school. The first 100 who returned these received a yo-yo and a Tootsie Pop. (Wish they would get homework turned in as fast.) The new yearbook for Cabe Middle School is still in the making. This will be pictures of just the CMS students, activities, staff and faculty. It will be $15 and we are really excited about it, as it will be the first yearbook for just the middle school. Order forms will be sent home next week. To order, a check or cash may be sent along with the name of the person of whom is making the purchase. It is intended to provide the CMS students with 'treasured memories' of their days at CMS. It was sure good to have John Paul Sparks in class, as he has been absent for several days. So many of the students and faculty have had that ol' virus that nobody wants, but seems as though somebody gets. Hopefully, soon we will all be well and ready to enjoy spring. Letters were sent home to the parents of the eighth graders informing them of an interest in having a eighth grade graduation. The students seem to like the idea. Mrs. Bullard and Mrs. Clark, Beta Club sponsors and Mrs. Clingan, Student Council sponsor, will be waiting for the replies from the parents in regard to their feelings concerning the possibility of the graduate at this grade level. Mrs. Dowey was planning to show a science fiction film to her reading class, and decided on 'Planet of the Apes.' We were all shocked that this movie came out in 1968. Where does time go? The students seem to be really enjoying the film. New hair styles! Yes indeed!! Mrs. Whitlock really looks nice (and younger) with her new short haircut, and then Mrs. Bullard comes in with a new short hair cut (also looking younger). Looking great, ladies. If haircuts make us look younger as it does for those two, who knows who will be next? We stay busy, and do our best to be real good as we continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS.
