Robert Houston CoonPublished Wednesday, February 24, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesRobert Houston Coon, 75, of Rison died Wednesday, February 17, 1999, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mr. Coon was born November 11, 1923, in Gurdon, the son of Crawford and Effie Coon. He was a veteran of World War II. He joined the United States Army March 8 1943 and served in France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded three times and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with two Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal and Victory Medal. Survivors include three brothers, William Lee Coon of Houston, Texas, James Ellis of Bearden and Marvin Ellis of Sparkman; three sisters, Velma Johnson of Berryville, Marlene Anthony of Beebe and Sarah Mooneyhan of Leola; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday, February 20, at Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon. Burial was in the V.A. National Cemetery in Little Rock. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
