Manhunt Ends With Two Being Arrested Saturday In RosstonBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, September 22, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune A manhunt kept officials with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office busy Saturday. The hunt ended, though, with two arrests and a string of commercial burglaries in the Rosston area being solved. According to Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell, the NCSO developed information on the case and obtained a warrant to search the home of Timothy Jackson, 23, of Rosston Tuesday, Sept. 14. Deputies found items linking Jackson to a rash of commercial burglaries committed in the area recently. This led to the NCSO getting an arrest warrant for Jackson. However, the suspect was nowhere to be found until Saturday, when the NCSO got a call letting the department know Jackson was back at his trailer near Rosston. Deputies were dispatched to the mobile home. A deputy in the area arrived first and noticed Jackson and a juvenile male leaving. The suspects fled from the officer, who gave chase, but lost the two on a logging road. When other deputies arrived, they began looking at where the various roads went and where the suspects could exit the area. About 15 or 20 minutes later, Otwell said, the suspects were seen walking down the road, but ran into the woods when they saw the officers. The Nevada County Rescue Unit, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Arkansas State Police and citizens from the area got involved, forming a circle around the stand of woods the suspects were in. Bloodhounds from Lafayette County and the Louisiana Department of Corrections were brought in to help with the search. Otwell got a call from the Smith family on Highway 278 saying two men were walking in their yard, asking for a ride to town. Officers were dispatched to the home, but the suspects again fled into the woods. Again, the dogs were sent in after them. The two were arrested about an hour and a half later. Jackson has been charged with three counts of commercial burglary and felony fleeing. Otwell said he will be charged with forgery in connection with stolen checks from one of the burglaries, but the number of counts isn't known. Jackson will also be charged with criminal mischief, but until the amount of damages he caused to the businesses has been tallied, it isn't known if these charges will be felony or misdemeanor. No bond has been set for Jackson, who was on probation at the time of the arrest. Otwell offered his thanks to the ASP, Laneburg Fire Department, NCRU, AG&FC and all others involved in the manhunt. CHARGES PILE UPMichael Gulley, 23, of Prescott has been charged with five counts on three crimes. Otwell said Gulley has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by certain persons, two counts of terroristic threatening and one count of residential burglary all stemming from incidents occurring Saturday night, Sept. 18. The evening began with the Prescott Police Department getting a call concerning Gulley allegedly threatening several females at the Prescott City Park. Reports stated Gulley was armed at the time. One of the females involved told ASP investigator Hays McWhirter Gulley had threatened to shoot her. After leaving the park, Gulley reportedly went to a house on Third Avenue, where, according to witnesses, he entered the residence cursing. He reportedly grabbed a female in the house by the hair and pulled her outside, where he allegedly put a gun to her head and walked down the road with her. Next, Otwell said, Gulley reportedly went to a house on Elm Street, where he again entered cursing a female there, pulled a gun and threatened those present. Gulley, Otwell said, allegedly pulled the girl out of the house by the hair and left with her, but had put the handgun away first. DOCKERY DOCKEDA 42-year-old man wanted for writing hot checks is now in custody at the Nevada County jail. According to Otwell, the NCSO got a call stating Ben Dockery was in the Falcon area. Dockery, he said, had initially been arrested for writing hot checks, but was released so he could earn money to pay off the debts. Instead, Dockery fled and was gone about a year. When word came to the NCSO Dockery was in the Falcon area, Otwell sent a deputy to a residence it was suspected Dockery was at. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Nevada County Jail, where he is being held on charges of failure to appear for theft of services, contempt of court and failure to comply with the Arkansas Hot Check statutes. Dockery is also wanted in Lafayette and Hempstead counties on similar charges. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
