MONTICELLO -- Another one bit the dust as Prescott scuttled

Drew Central 54-18 Friday night.

The Pirates had a game plan to keep the ball out of the hands of

Prescotts potent offense. To do this Drew Central basically ran the ball

and had some success. But, every time the Wolf offense touched the

ball in the game, Prescott scored.

It should be noted the Pirates are only in their second year of playing

football, and this is the teams first season of playing varsity ball.

When the program was instituted last year, Drew Central only played

junior varsity teams. Friday night was the Pirates third home game

ever.

Drew Central won the opening toss and elected to receive. The ball

was kicked out of bounds, putting the Pirates on the 35. The Pirates

moved to Prescotts 44 before turning it over on downs.

The Wolves opened showing the passing attack, with Termaine

Henderson completing two of three passes in the five-play drive, winging

a 28-yars scoring pass to C.J. Smith for the first six. The point after

made it 7-0 Prescott.

The Pirates began their second drive from the Drew Central 20, ran

six plays, got help from a pass interference call, but saw Daron Purifoy

pick off a pass to end the drive.

The Wolves began on the Prescott 38 with 3:35 left in the opening

period. Henderson found a wide open B.J. Haynie, who rambled to the

Pirate 15. DeMarcus Collier carried to the one, but Prescott was hit

with a holding call and the ball was moved back to the nine.

Collier carried the next three times, scoring with 1:32 left in the first.

The PAT gave the Wolves a 14-0 lead.

The ensuing kick was bobbled, but Drew Central recovered and got

to the Pirate 30. Three plays later period one ended and the Bucs were

facing a fourth and four on their own 36.

Throughout the night Drew Central disdained the punt, more often

than not going for a first down. The Pirates played as a team with nothing

to lose. The Pirates opened period two by completing a pass and

keeping their drive alive.

The Bucs kept the ball for 5:13 in the second and punted to the

Wolf 24.

T. Henderson found twin brother Jermaine on first down for a gain

of 13. From there, the Wolves ran 13 plays, eating time off the clock

and capping the drive with Kalin Hall going in from the one. The PAT

put the Wolves up 21-0 with 2:00 left in the half.

Drew Central stunned Prescott, doing something no team had done

all year returning a kick for a touchdown.

Terrance Newman took the kick at the Pirate 10, found a seam and

broke it for six. The point after was no good and Prescotts lead was cut

to 21-6.

This did little more than infuriate the Wolves as Prescott wasted no

time in getting the six back.

With 1:48 showing, Prescott recovered the onside kick attempt at

the Wolf 46.

T. Henderson found Haynie at the Pirate 37, followed with a handoff

to his brother Jermaine, who gained seven more. The fourth and

final play of the drive was another run by Jermaine Henderson from

30-yards out.

The PAT was no good, but Prescott was now up 27-6 with 44 ticks

left on the clock.

The Pirates moved from the Drew Central 20 to the 30 as time

expired.

Period three saw Prescott put 13 more on the board in two possessions.

The Wolves took over at the Prescott 33 to open the second half.

Five plays later, Hall went in from 11 yards out. The point after made

it 34-6 with 10 minutes remaining.

Drew Central returned the favor, driving 80 yards on eight plays to

cut the lead to 34-12 as the extra point was no good.

The Wolves began at the Prescott 29 with 6:19 showing. T.

Henderson handed to Collier, who rambled to the Bucs 33. The next

play lost a yard before T. Henderson kept for 14.

Three plays later Hall went in from 13 yards out to make it 40-12 as

the point after was wide right.

Drew Central kept the all the remainder of the period, moving from

the Pirate 30 to the Prescott 46 in nine plays.

The Pirates ran three plays to start the final 12 minutes before turning

the ball over on downs at the Wolf 47.

Smith made a diving catch as T. Henderson aired it out, bringing the

pigskin in at the Pirate 5. Two plays later Rashad Blakely capped the

drive by going in from the three. The PAT made it 47-12. This gave

Prescott a 35-point lead and invoked the mercy rule.

Drew Central began at its 20, ran three plays and coughed the ball

up with Prescott falling on the fumble at the Pirate 28.

With 7:28 left in the contest, Prescott marched down the short field,

capping the drive with James Colbert scoring the final touchdown of

the night. The PAT made it 54-12 with 5:50 left.

Coach Greg Smith substituted liberally, getting as many players in

as possible.

This helped the Pirates move 80 yards in nine plays for the games

last score.

But, Prescott did add a bit of insult to injury by blocking the point

after attempt, making the final score 54-18.

The Wolves will be on the road again, as they head to Harmony

Grove Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
