The Nevada County Fair Association

is a success story.

Those were the words of Nevada

County Agent Melissa Beck who

addressed members of the fair board Oct.

14 during the boards regular meeting.

Beck said the fair board has leadership

in place to take over many of the

duties that have been performed by the

Nevada County Extension Office over

the past years.

Beck said her office is charged with

providing education. Beck said that in

keeping with that charge and considering

the fact that the board now has people in

place to handle the duties associated with

the fair, that she was handing over all

tasks except those related to the educational

aspects of the fair.

Those duties now in the hands of the

fair board include confirming people to

work the various aspects of the fair, finding

all the necessary items and sponsors

for the livestock show and locating

judges for many of the events.

Nevada County Fair Association

President Tammy Milam said there are

several things the board needed to

address, but there wasnt a quorum present

and so no business decisions were

made. Milam said the board will meet

again on Nov. 18. Milam said the board

will have to make a final decision

on dates for the 2009 fair at

that time.

Milam said that the gate

receipts were up for the days

that the 2008 fair was in full

swing. A storm the result of a

hurricane impacted

Saturdays event, prompting the

cancellation of the rodeo and

the midway event.

Anyone who wants to

become involved in the fair is

encouraged to contact Milam or

any other board member, or to

show up at any meeting.

Meetings are held at the fair

grounds at 7 p.m. on the third

Monday of each month.
